Goethe-Institut Washington celebrates the opening of Dancer, Still Moving, a solo exhibition by Nigerian-American artist Victor Ekpuk. The exhibition expands on Ekpuk’s monumental red steel sculpture Dancer, installed at the corner of 14th and R Streets NW in 2025.

Inside the gallery, Ekpuk translates the sculpture’s distinctive silhouette into a serigraph print and presents smaller sculptures and works on paper that offer a broader introduction to his artistic practice. His visual language draws inspiration from Nsibidi, an indigenous ideographic writing system from southeastern Nigeria, combining historic symbolism with contemporary abstraction.

The exhibition explores themes of movement, freedom, resilience, cultural memory, and identity while examining what happens when a recognizable piece of public art is brought into a more intimate gallery setting.

The opening reception includes complimentary wine and cocktails. Admission is free, but advance registration is required.
