Mónica Girón
at Frieze New York

Barro will present the series "Ajuar Para Un Conquistador or Trousseau for a Conqueror" (1993) of the eco-conceptual artist Mónica Girón for the Focus section of Frieze New York. The works consists of a set of merino wool pieces of clothing including pullovers, leggings, gloves, and scarves made for birds facing extinction. The title refers to the geopolitical history of Patagonia, appropriated by many cultures over the centuries; it also has another meaning as a set of funerary objects, and as such holds a poetic allusion to the extinction of the region’s species, as we are presented with small garments for bodies that may soon be no longer present.
