A Sign of Rain
Kim So Ra's Janggu Project

Join us as the acclaimed  Kim So Ra's Janggu Project  brings their unique brand of thrilling Korean percussion to Washington, D.C. for OnStage Korea’s 4th showcase of the 2019 season, presenting  A Sign of Rain  in an intimate setting at Studio Theatre! The intense, driving sounds of the hourglass-shaped Janggu take center stage in this genre-defying performance, led by one of Korea’s leading musicians.

Famous for her skill with Korea’s iconic double-sided Janggu drum, the ensemble's namesake  Kim So Ra  deconstructs complex traditional rhythms and recombines them with diverse music genres. The Janggu remains at center stage in this performance, however, capturing the energy of each rain drop through the senses of sound, vision, and vibrating touch.  A Sign of Rain  strives to recapture the flow and meaning of nature often lost in today’s busy world—for Kim So Ra, each falling drop is a reminder to savor the ordinary moments that pass by each day. Often those moments involve new encounters, and so the performance integrates an array of instruments complementary to the Janggu that together create a broad spectrum of emotions and a connection with the audience. With energy and passion, each artist conveys their intentions and emotions in an impressive sequence of solos that blend into a singular, unforgettable performance.
