The Korean Film Festival DC returns in 2017 as one of the largest celebrations of Korean cinema in America, with screenings of the latest and greatest Korean films and special events at venues across the DC region! Hosted by the Smithsonian's Freer|Sackler, this year's festival features an opening night kickoff party with music and food, live discussions with two directors, more than a dozen films, and 20 screenings. Some events require tickets, others are free. Opening Night Kickoff Party with Okja & Director Bong Joon-ho

Friday, Nov. 3, 5:30-9:30 pm FREE

It all starts with the opening night reception courtesy of the KCC at the Smithsonian's recently renovated Freer Gallery on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 pm with complimentary Korean appetizers by Esther's Kitchen, a K-Pop dance party DJed by Bae Bae, tours of the museum's Korean galleries, and a cash bar by Tortoise and Hare. The fun continues at 7:30 pm with a screening of the 2017 film Okja, Bong Joon-ho's dystopian comedy about a race to engineer the perfect genetically modified pig, in the Meyer Auditorium followed by a live video Q&A with acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho. Screening of The Truth Beneath with Director Lee Kyung-mi

Sunday, Nov. 12, 2-4 pm FREE

Acclaimed director Lee Kyung-mi visits Washington, D.C. for an in-person Q&A following her 2016 film The Truth Beneath. In this tense and stylish thriller, the daughter of a news anchor-turned-politician goes missing, prompting his wife to launch her own desperate investigation, unearthing a web of corruption and deceit.
