한국의 세계유산: Korean World Heritage
Opening March 23, 2015 (walk-in visitors welcome during regular hours)
Digital Museum, Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C.

The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. proudly presents a digital exhibition exploring the diversity of Korea's UNESCO-recognized World Heritage sites through a combination of 3D video, vivid images, and audio.

In 1972, the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization met in Paris and adopted the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. This act created the World Heritage List, which today includes 1,007 properties from 161 countries. The Republic of Korea is host to 11 such properties, which span the diversity of Korea’s rich cultural and geographical heritage: Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, Haeinsa Temple Janggyeong Panjeon, Jongmyo Shrine, Changdeokgung Palace Complex, Hwaseong Fortress, Gyeongju Historic Areas, the Gochang, Hwasun and Ganghwa Dolmen Sites, Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes, Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, Historic Villages of Korea: Hahoe and Yangdong, and Namhansanseong.

This exhibition introduces the beauty and historic value of Korea’s World Heritage sites through video, audio, and still images. As a window into the traditional lives and stories of Korea, these iconic sites serve a key role in fostering a deeper understanding of Korea.

This exhibition was sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration (www.cha.go.kr).

The Korean Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, also known as KORUS House, is dedicated to promoting Korean culture and strengthening Korea-US ties through a variety of exhibitions, presentations, educational programs, partnerships, and support for local events in the Capital area. KORUS House also distributes free informational materials about Korea and manages www.KoreaCultureDC.org. Walk-in guests are welcome Monday to Friday, 9 am to noon and 1:30 to 5:30 pm.
