K-Cinema Screening & Social: 71: Into The Fire image

At 4 a.m. on June 25, 1950, war erupts on the Korean Peninsula. North Korean forces, armed with overwhelming firepower, advance relentlessly on South Korean troops who look destined for defeat. Oh Jang-beom (T.O.P), barely an adult himself, leaves his family behind to volunteer. As South Korean forces assemble to defend the Nakdong River outside Busan, their commander must leave in defense of the city of Pohang just 71 student soldiers who have barely ever fired a weapon. Jang-beom must lead them against unbeatable odds, if only he can find his courage. It will be their final stand.

Based on a true story, director John H. Lee’s 2010 war epic 71: Into the Fire earned a slew of debut awards for its leading actor, Choi Seung-hyun, also known as T.O.P, a member of the superstar K-Pop group Big Bang.

In Korean with English subtitles, 120 minutes. K-Cinema screening events are free with an RSVP.
