"Love, Happiness and Color"
by Ernesto Del Carpio

"Viento de colores sobre sus labios celestes"

Peruvian artist Ernesto Del Carpio represents the emerging art of the late 70's in Arequipa, Peru's second largest city. The characteristic of the work of the artist comes from a place with its own identity and history, an artistic expression product of a multicultural and diverse country.

Del Carpio's artistic life started on sculptures in metal, stone, wood or any material that he felt suitable to handling and shaping. Later, over time, he begun shaping things with paint, as colors and contrasts define figures without a third dimension. However, a permanent need for volume took him to paint with shapes, silhouettes and double images.

In his words, he says, "I work on the subject without giving the interpretation much importance (the memory is never entirely exact). I recur to color and volume as possibilities, always to say something, something that is not determined (everything can change)." This concept that dominates his work is what emerges when observing each of his paintings, allowing us to reach the depths of his creation.
